Northwestern completed another Ranger Preview event Saturday.
Over 400 seniors from all across the state of Oklahoma and other surrounding states attended this year’s event.
“Our goal was to invite seniors to visit our campus to earn a $600 scholarship and see all that Northwestern Oklahoma State University can offer to them as they begin to set their higher education goals. We have received positive feedback from many of the students who attended the event,” said Paige Fischer, director of recruitment.
From the preliminary evaluation of the applications received from the event, a senior from Idabel, Okla. had the longest drive to Alva.
“We were excited to welcome students from all across the state of Oklahoma and other surrounding states as well,” said Fischer.
There were over 20 campus clubs and organizations that attended the event. Each organization had a booth set up to give the seniors general information on their campus involvement and activities. Each senior had the opportunity to browse and inquire about his or her many interests.
Current Northwestern students gave the attending seniors the opportunity to take a tour of the campus. Faculty members also helped with the event by assisting the seniors in filling out a free admissions application.
“Ranger Preview is possible because of a campus-wide effort,” said Fischer. “Our Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors were our lead tour guides for the event. A special ‘thank you’ also goes out to the many students who volunteered to assist us with this event. Faculty and staff members also played an integral role in the success of Ranger Preview. Faculty and staff presence at Ranger Preview is one of the key parts of Ranger Preview for the prospective students.”
University President Janet Cunningham and newly crowned Miss Northwestern Chelsay Adams spoke at the event, welcoming and encouraging seniors to attend Northwestern.
The University Singers, dance team, cheerleaders, and university band all performed. Their performances, embodying the strengths of each group, were outstanding and kicked off the event on a positive note, according to Fischer.
Every campus athletic team was represented by a coach or athlete at the event to inform potential prospects of the opportunities provided by their team.
Fischer and the recruitment office expressed their gratitude to all those involved with the execution of the event.
“On behalf of the entire Recruitment Office, I would like to extend another thank you to all those who helped with Ranger Preview. The maintenance department stayed late on Friday night to make sure everything was set up, clean and ready for the event. Our Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors showed their leadership skills as they gave tours to large groups on a set time schedule. Many Northwestern students gave up their Saturday morning to assist with handing out t-shirts, taking photos and simply sharing their Northwestern experiences with the prospective students,” said Fischer. “Once again, the faculty and staff were able to highlight many of the academic opportunities available to students at Northwestern. We are appreciative of the generosity of Terry Ross and Community Bank, as well as the City of Alva; this event is possible because of their investment into the future students of Northwestern.”
