1. The theme for the 2024 celebration, March 8, is “Inspire Inclusion.” According to internationalwomensday.com, “When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world.”

2. When did this day begin?
On March 8, 1908, women marched down through the streets of the Lower East Side of New York in protest of child labor, sweatshop working conditions, and women’s suffrage demands.
Two years later March 8, 1910, became the annually observed International Women’s Day.

3. What is the purpose of recognizing this day?
For IWD the purpose is to bring people together to create a world with gender quality. “Regardless of gender, everyone is granted the same rights, privileges, and access to opportunities,” the IWD website said.

4. Where can you celebrate IWD?
International Women’s Day can be celebrated by everyone from anywhere in the world at any time. However, the Official UN International Women’s Day Commemoration will be held in person and live broadcast. Many Women and Men choose to celebrate this day on their own.

With the spread of knowledge about International Women’s Day, you can get more support. A few supporters you may not have known include celebrities Emma Watson, Rihanna, Dolly Parton, Michelle Obama, and Nina Simone. Such actors as Chris Pratt, Mark Ruffalo, and Ryan Gosling also lend their support.
