Dr. Sandra Scott Watson earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing at the University of Oklahoma. She later returned to OU and got a master’s in nursing education. She went to practitioner school at Frontier Nursing University, becoming a family nurse practitioner in 2017 and earning her doctorate in 2019. She is now an assistant professor of nursing at Northwestern.

Q: What sold you on coming to Northwestern?
A: The thing about Northwestern that I liked is that it’s an in-state school and it offers a combination of online with actual on-campus experiences for students. So I feel like that offers the flexibility and diversity that advanced learners need but it also helps prepare them the best for clinical experiences. There really aren’t that many schools in Oklahoma that offer that. And then when I came to visit the campus, I really fell in love with the home experience.

Q: What is one of the first goals you hope to accomplish here?
A: Being a new faculty member at Northwestern, I’m trying to immerse myself in the culture and trying to be an asset for my students and faculty at Northwestern.

Q: What is your favorite class to teach and why?
A: Right now, I’m teaching women’s health and that’s probably one of my favorite things to teach because I taught women’s health for many years and that was my first love in nursing even though I don’t currently work in that area. I really enjoy it.

Q: What is your superpower?
A: Multitasking. I don’t even have to think of that one. It’s a curse and a superpower.

Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?
A: I am an avid horseback rider.
