The 2015 Northwestern Oklahoma State University Study Abroad program will take a nine-day trip to China in May.

The trip will be May 19 through May 27, during the summer class period. It will offer students the opportunity to get three credit hours in either business or humanities credits.

Northwestern will be the first college from Oklahoma to go to China.

Wei Zhou, a business professor at Northwestern, said, “This will be a life-changing experience for students, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

“Students don’t always get the chance to see the other side of the earth, and that is the reason I’m going, to be able to give students that opportunity.”    Students will go to three different cities, Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai.

What students will be doing depends on why they are going, whether it be for the business credit hours, the humanities credit hours or just as a tourist.

Business students will meet with several businesses in all three cities. The students will be able to see how they run business in China and see how different it is from the U.S.  For the humanities part of the travel, the students will be visiting several places, including parks and museums.   Students are also welcome to come on the trip just as a tourist and are allowed to bring a friend or family member along with them.

Zhou also said “the food is very delicious” and students will get to experience the many foods China has to offer.

There will be several informational meetings before the trip:

Oct. 14, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Alva IE 131, Enid 218, Woodward 116 and Ponca City UC114;

Nov. 18, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Alva IE 131, Enid 218, Woodward 116 and Ponca City UC 114;

Dec. 2, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Alva IE 131, Enid 218, Woodward 116, and Ponca City UC 114;

The meetings will cover everything that will be done while there, including price of the trip and things that may need to be packed. All  accommodations and food will be included in the price.   Zhou will be the leader for the trip, so any questions should be directed to her.
