Northwestern’s President’s Leadership Class will sponsor a two-day blood drive Tuesday and Wednesday.

The blood drive will be in the Ranger Room in the student center and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Each donor will receive a free t-shirt, snack, sandwich and health screening. Some professors are also offering bonus points for students who donate.

“This is the first blood drive of the 2014-2015 school year,” said Northwestern Special Events Coordinator Rachel Stewart.  “We need all students, faculty and staff to donate in order to reach and exceed our drive goal of 240. It is a very rewarding feeling to know that you have a part in saving lives. Be sure to visit the pre-sign table that will be set up in the student center to make an appointment to donate.”

The Oklahoma Blood Institute offers advice to donors before and after donating. Maintain a healthy iron level in your diet. Get a good night’s sleep the day before. Drink plenty of water and eat a healthy meal before donating. Also, do not forget to bring a donor card or two separate forms of identification. After donating, one should avoid strenuous activity and drink plenty of fluids.

To save time, one can pre-register online using OBI’s donor express system at http://obi.org/donor-express/.

Morgan Marks, freshman NWOSU PLC member, encourages students to donate. “Become a life saver,” she said.  “Give blood on Oct. 7 and 8 and help us reach our goal. Every donation helps.”
