Oftentimes considered to be one of the most mentally, creatively and physically straining jobs on campus, the print shop does so much for Northwestern and Alva.

With a staff of six, made up of two full time workers, one part time workers and three student workers, the print shop offers individuals design services for flyers, posters, brochures, invitations, announcements, Thank You cards and more.

The print shop also offers binding, stapling, hole drilling, folding, trimming, assembling and padding services as well.

Alica Hall, coordinator of the print services has been an employee of the print shop for four years and she said as long as the printing job is nothing political, the print shop will help with any individual’s printing needs.

When it comes to placing a number on exactly how many printing jobs the print shop sees each week, Hall said it is too tough to tell.

“August, September and October are crazy months for us with all the different events around the town and campus,” Hall said. “After those months though, our workload seems to level back off to a reasonable, and less stressful amount.”

Managing all the tasks for big events, such as homecoming for example, is what Hall considers to be one of the most demanding jobs for all of the employees.

“We try to get things done as quickly, and efficiently, as we can, so we can get that off our plate and move onto what the next job is,” Hall said.

Hall added that picking out the right fonts for designs is a long and tedious process as well, and what she considers to be a challenge as well.

Her and the staff of the print shop work day in and day out on whatever projects come their way, and it takes a full team effort to accomplish each of those.

“It is really important that everyone in the office works as one unit because there is so much that we have to do together,” Hall said.

The current print shop team consists of Hall, Tracy Meza, Erin Hopkins, Joel Gonzalez, Gabby Cepero and Taylor Morris.

“This job doesn’t allow the team with much down time while they are on the clock,” Hall added.
