Both women’s softball and men’s baseball had a tough weekend April 19 and 20 as both teams lost all their games.
The women were scoreless in three games against Southern Arkansas: 4-0, 9-0, 13-0. Tuesday games against Northeastern State University were canceled.
The men only played two of the three games scheduled in Magnolia, Arkansas, also against Southern Arkansas, losing both with scores 2-4 and 0-1.
Despite two losses Friday, Ranger baseball (17-12) is ranked seventh in the Great American Conference and is assured of a berth in the 2024 baseball championships that begin May 3-4.
Women’s softball
The Lady Rangers sit in 11th place in the GAC, with a GAC record of 7-23, 17-30 overall.
Ouachita Baptist, 5-25 GAC and 10-37 overall, brings up the rear at 12th place.
Men’s baseball
Game 1: S. Ark 4, NWOSU 2
NWOSU scored first. In the third inning, Hagen Barcello singled to left field, allowing Dylan Bradford on third base to make the first run. The second NWOSU score came in the sixth inning. With runners on first and second, Paul Sachen singled to right field, and Trevor Stile went on to score.
Southern Arkansas put up one run in the third, two in the fourth and the last one in the fifth to win 4-2.
The Rangers managed 7 hits and 0 errors. Southern Arkansas had 12 hits and 1 error.
Game 2: S. Ark. 1, NWOSU 0
Southern Arkansas put its only score on the board in the first inning of the second game. Neither team could muster a score after that and the game ended 1-0 after six and half innings.
The Rangers saw three hits: one each from Dylan Bradford, Trevor Saire and Chad Green.
The Muleriders had five hits and one error.
Rangers beat Rogers, 4-3
Rogers State opened the baseball game Tuesday with a score in the first inning, but the Rangers fired back with three, then added a fourth in the third inning and held on to win, 4-3.
Rogers also scored one each in the fourth and ninth innings, but couldn’t wrest the lead away.
The Rangers had 7 hits while Rogers State managed 8 hits.
NWOSU wraps up the baseball season with a three-game series against Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford, Friday 2 p.m. and Saturday 1 and 4 p.m.
