The Northwestern Rodeo team kicks off their season this weekend at Colby, Kansas.

Mike McGinn, a Haines, Oregon steer wrestling native, is ready to start his senior rodeo season.

His main goal this year is to make the trip back to the College National Finals rodeo.

McGinn made it two years ago in 2013, but did not have the finals he was hoping for.

This season he plans to stay focused and consistent. He said, “I want to make sure I get a good start on every steer, and to throw them all down.”

Sophomore team member, Sami McGuire from Backus, Minnesota has set her season goals early on.

She is looking forward to team roping with her new team roping partner from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. She also is ready to get her barrel horse running.

McGuire plans to make at least two short rounds this season. She said, “I have practiced enough, and it is what it is. If the rodeo doesn’t go well, there is always another one.”

The Rangers have a roster full of competitive athletes looking to start the season off with a win.

The first rodeo at Colby Community College of the season starts tomorrow in Colby, Kan. and runs through Sunday.
