Family, tradition and football. There is not much else anybody would need besides tuition money, but wait … do not forget about the tuition money that will be going around too.
Northwestern Oklahoma State University continues their tradition of Family day beginning Friday, Sept. 22 to Saturday, Sept. 23. This annual event will allow families to take tours of the campus, shop for tuition scholarships, buy ranger gear and attend the football game.
Families participating in the event will visit various Alva merchants to “shop for tuition.” There are over 20 different businesses participating in the event to help students and families. Students will be able to register (however many times they choose to) for $500, $300, or $200 tuition giveaway for the spring semester on either Friday starting at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Students can earn one of the three different scholarship opportunities to pay off some of their tuition.
On Saturday 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a Presidential pre-game where Jane Cunningham, President of Northwestern, will make an address to welcome students and their families. Any student participating will have their name put into a hat and the winners will be announced at halftime of the football game.
Family Day will be a time for students and their families to bond together with those at the university. They will understand how and why Northwestern goes about creating a lifelong tradition through this event.
“For a number of years, we have made this a tradition as to what we do,” Calleb Mosburg, Dean of Student Affairs said, “to the family feel that Northwestern gives off, it does not just rub off on the students, but to their families as well.”
Mosburg believes in the culture and tradition Northwestern has going and will continue to create a bigger and better family atmosphere. “We are here to serve the student and the families,” Mosburg said, “The will always be hands that are there to help, that is why I love it here.”
Whether it be getting time to spend with family, the chance to win tuition money or maybe just to enjoy a Saturday night football game with the family this is an event people want to attend. Not to mention the $3 tailgate dinner right before the game hosted by Student Services. All it takes is a student and their family to show up and the rest will take care of itself.
