In Oklahoma, two statewide elections will be held – the general election and a special election.
The three candidates running in the special election for the U.S. Senate are Republican James Lankford, Democrat Constance Johnson and independent Mark Beard. They are running for the seat vacated by retiring Republican Sen. Tom Coburn.
Lankford won the Republican nomination in the June 24 primary over House Speaker T.W Shannon. Johnson emerged victorious over Jim Rogers in the Democratic primary.
In the general election, Democrat Matt Silverstein will run against Republican Jim Inhofe, who has been one of the state’s U.S. senators since 1994.
