WORDS WITH MR.KAUMANS- KEVIN KAUMANS

Well, Easter is just around the corner, and Dr. Armstrong has asked me to write about the holiday from the point of view of a Catholic after finding out my family heritage.

Now, while I haven’t been to church in a good long while, I am very knowledgeable about the traditions involving the Roman Catholic Church. So, in this episode of Words With Mr. Kaumans, I’m going to be going over what Easter means to us.

First off, we have this thing called “Lent Fridays.” This takes place a few weeks before Easter, where us Catholics abstain from eating meat of any kind (excluding fish). This is because of Jesus’s fasting during his journey across the desert. We honor this sacrifice by following in his footsteps.

Second, we pray to the Virgin Mary. Now, in many Christian denominations, prayer means to worship. However, to us Catholics, it only means “to talk to.” It’s quite hard for me to explain, but to put it into simpler terms, think of it like calling a dead relative’s phone number. It’s not the same as making music dedicated to worshiping their very existence as one would with God.
